Found Texture

This particular texture is rich in variety. Though there is repetition of patterns, the actual material itself is different from one thread to the next. There is glossy, sparkly, and shiny texture among the curved lines, while the colorful flecks of thread in between are reflective and emit a sheen when light hits them. There is also a dull, neutral texture behind the stitches, giving the ones at the forefront more attention. A great amount of rhythm takes the eye from top to bottom and left to right, as the stitched thread echoes the look of a waves both large and small. Overall, this object is shiny, glossy, light, dark, colorful, prickly, sparkly, reflective, repetitive, and raised.

This texture is slick and distorted. A dull sheen warps light and images in its environment. There is reflection present, though it is not crystal clear. There is also a sense of rhythm and motion with the slightly bent pattern that is present in the glass. Several tones of light hit each area at a different angle, causing the distortion and varied pattern within the object. It gives off an abrasive feeling the closer the lines get to one another and the darker the light is at the bottom. Overall, this object is slick, shiny, dull, reflective, repetitive, distorted, geometric, vibratory, and varied.

This is a rough texture. It contains a ruggedness because of the lines in the wood. Natural tones enhance the ability to see its age by highlighting grooves, marks, color spots, and wear. The rhythm present within this wood is varied, as it goes from close to far apart in the age lines. They also force the eye to move from side to side, rather than top to bottom. Dark tones show more depth within the object, and the light tones spotlight minute details and nuances in the pattern. Overall this piece is rough, rugged, scratchy, worn, battered, beaten, and tired.

Great Minds in Design

I have chosen to research Ludwig Hohlwein. After searching through many designers on the list, his work struck a chord with me. I was enamored with his use of vivid colors, bright images, and typography. His work seems vintage, yet progressive. I am very much looking forward to learning about someone who created thoughtful, innovative art that has stood the test of time.
